Phillips & Peters Wins Local Community Impact Award

On Tuesday, November 3rd, the family law office of Phillips & Peters was honored to receive the CoVABiz Magazine Community Impact Award.

According to the Business Magazine of Coastal Virginia, the award is given to “businesses and organizations that are making a tangible, measurable impact on their communities. That impact might be the result of any number of activities including job creation, workforce development programs, volunteer efforts, or innovative business models that promote a healthy work environment.”

Phillips & Peters is a company that has every qualification built into their business. To start, the office culture is one that allows for continual growth and professional education. The partners of the firm are generous when it comes to paying for continuing education classes or conferences. These educational experiences keep the staff up to date on the latest practices to better serve the Hampton Roads community.

There is an encouragement to the staff to be involved in volunteer activities outside of work though the team serves together as well. For the past seven years, the office sponsored and participated in the Triple R Ranch Memorial Day 5K. Triple R Ranch is a non-profit camp located in Chesapeake that provides programs for adolescents. As part of their Christmas celebration last year, Phillips & Peters volunteered for a shift at the Good Mojo Thrift Store that supports ForKids. Throughout the year, the office competes in several fundraising challenges like the Foodbank’s Legal Food Frenzy and the Anthem LemonAid stand to support the CHKD.

To the team at Phillips & Peters, community impact means being present and active within your sphere of influence to help people move forward. “We are passionate about helping others get through the difficult times they find themselves in. The way we engage with our community echoes that passion and tries to prevent people from encountering tough obstacles,” stated founding partner Kim Phillips.

The firm also has a heart for activities that support children. Together they have participated in the Young Lawyers Christmas Toy Drive, played an active role in the Norfolk Middle School Mock Trial Program, and supported organizations like Tidewater Friends of Foster Care. Corrynn Peters notes, “We want the children of our community to be taken care of, well informed, and unafraid of the legal system. We want to support organizations and non-profits in our backyard that are striving for good. The way we work, live, and give is a testimony to our heart for improving our community where we have the most influence.”
