WCW – Pownd Cakes by Jen
Join us on the first Wednesday of every month to celebrate WCW aka Women Crush Wednesday. These are not sponsored or paid for posts – just women business owners we think are crushing it in Hampton Roads that we love to support.
Jen Anglin of Pownd Cakes is our first WCW because she is a well-known name around the office of Phillips & Peters. When the holiday season arrives, so does Jen with her cakes. On that glorious day, every surface area of the back conference room is covered with small and large cinnamon pound cakes. Resisting the temptation to keep the treats for ourselves, the pound cakes are divided up, adorned with good tidings, and delivered to the friends and families that helped us have another successful year.
After all the cakes have been delivered one (or two) large ones remain for our office to share. Jen’s cakes are unlike any other. They’re dense with flavor and soaked through with a sweetness that happily melts in your mouth. What started as a home-based business grew through referral until Pownd Cakes was popping up around Hampton Roads. You might’ve seen Jen with her table full of cakes at the Onancock Farmers Market or Selden Market. It wasn’t long before the popularity demanded a brick and mortar space.
Pownd Cakes found a home in The Palace Shops of Ghent, right across the parking lot from Baker’s Crust. When you see the black awning with pink polka dots, then you’ve found the right place. As the business has grown, so has the variety of cakes available. The original cinnamon is a classic crowd pleaser, but that didn’t stop Jen from getting creative in the kitchen. Now there are 11 different flavors available, with new ones frequently popping up on the menu. Have you ever had a key lime or peanut butter pound cake? Well now’s the time to try. We promise you won’t be disappointed!
